Welcome to Tulita

Welcome to Tulita, meaning where the two rivers meet. The two rivers referred to are the Mackenzie River, which flows north from Great Slave Lake to the Arctic Ocean, and the Great Bear River that flows west out of the Great Bear Lake. Tulita is home to the Mountain Dene or Sahtu Dene making up about 75 per cent of the population who speak both English and North Slavey. Tulita also has a significant Métis population (10 per cent) and non-Aboriginal population (10 per cent). Tulita has a population of 566 people (2009).
